As I studied ACIM, Jesus was having me focus on “pray, listen and follow.” He would tell me, “In place of your analytics, I will guide you and tell you exactly what to say, what to do, and where to go. I will handle all of time and space if you will give your mind to me. I will handle all the arrangements.”
This was mind-boggling to the ego! What do you mean, “handle all the arrangements”? What about airline tickets, transportation, food, and shelter? The focus a course in miracles “pray, listen and follow,” the directions that Jesus gave me, proved to be 100% trustworthy, 100% safe, and 100% time-saving.
A Parable with David
One of my ACIM students in the 1990s came up to me to have a cup of tea at my kitchen table at the Peace House. She sat down and said, “I have X amount of money, and it’s in the stock market right now. I am praying and wondering what I should do with this money.”
We were having our cup of tea and I said, “You’re supposed to completely get out of the stock market right now.” I am not a stock broker, I don’t really follow the stock market, but it just came through me, effortlessly, as a call for love.
And so she did. She went back and completely sold all of her stocks. Right after that, the stock market took a giant dive, a giant crash. Then she came back and said to me, “Do you know how much money you saved me with what you told me?” And I said, “That wasn’t me! I don’t claim any responsibility for that advice and guidance. What did I say?”
I am just into pray, listen, and follow. I am not thinking about giving people guidance and advice. Frances and I can tell you that over the years practicing ACIM and living together as a group of people, there are a lot of logistics that come up for consideration. The one thing that has carried all of us through is “pray, listen, and follow.” We have learned to be 0% analytical and 100% trusting.
